Namobuddha is located at the hilltop of Panauti and is around 38 km eastwards from Kathmandu valley. This place is also marked as one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimages of the Kavre District. The popular legend about this place is: Once a prince named Mahasttva was travelling through this place. He saw a tigress and her cubs that were dying out of hunger. This touched the prince and he offered his own body to the starving Tigress and its underfed cubs. This legendary episode is inscribed in a stone next to the holy stupa.
