Located 145 km from Kathmandu, Syabrubesi is the starting point of the Langtang Valley Trek. This less-traveled route is gradually gaining popularity and is now considered the third most popular trekking destination in Nepal, after Everest and Annapurna. In addition to its breathtaking natural beauty, the region is also home to the rich cultural heritage of the Tamang people, which has been preserved to this day.
During these 8 days of trekking in the Langtang region, you will traverse the Langtang National Park, which is home to numerous unique species of plants and animals. You will enjoy a rest day at Kyanjin Gompa (3870 m), nestled among the great Himalayas. A visit to the monastery and local cheese factory is another highlight of this trek, setting the Langtang route apart from other treks in Nepal. This region is one of the most popular trekking areas in Nepal, encompassing stunning landscapes, meadows, and ancient monasteries.
The trek will surprise you with its beauty as you walk through forests, enjoying stunning views of mountains, valleys, and glaciers. The Chortens, mani walls, and monasteries along the way reflect the influence of Buddhism in this peaceful region. There are opportunities for side treks, such as hikes to Tserko Ri or Kyanjin Ri.
The trek begins with a drive along the Trishuli River, north of Kathmandu, past Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche to Syabrubesi, a Sherpa village. This route is an ancient trading path between Nepal and Tibet.
As you trek through various forests, you may encounter local wildlife such as musk deer, Himalayan monal, tahrs, wild dogs, serows, or even snow leopards.
It will take two days to reach Langtang. On the first day, you will trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel. On the second day, you will continue from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village, where you will receive a warm welcome from the local Tamang people.
The following day, you will trek to Kyanjin Gompa, where you will spend an extra day acclimatizing. During this rest day, you will explore the local monasteries, visit the cheese factory, and hike to Tserko Ri (5,450 m / 17,880 ft). From this viewpoint, you will enjoy panoramic views of glaciers and high mountains like Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Langtang II (6,586 m), Yala Peak (5,520 m), and Naya Khang (5,844 m).
Another important viewpoint is Kyanjin Ri at 4,773 m (15,655 ft), which offers majestic views of the entire Langtang Lirung face and the Langtang Lirung Glacier below the peak.
The entire trekking experience will be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for many. After spending time in Kyanjin Gompa, we will trek back to Lama Hotel, and then continue south to Syabrubesi. On the final day, we will take a bus back to Kathmandu, which takes about seven to nine hours. Upon arrival, you will return to your hotel, cherishing the memories of a short but enjoyable trek.
This is an enjoyable trek that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. It offers opportunities to explore the Langtang region, visit famous viewpoints, and immerse yourself in the local lifestyle. After an early morning breakfast, the drive to Syabrubesi begins as we head north out of Kathmandu. During the journey, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of rivers, terraced fields, small villages, and snow-capped mountains.
The road takes you to a small town, Dhunche. While traveling along the banks of the Trishuli River, you’ll catch glimpses of Ganesh Himal (7,422 m / 24,350 ft). From Dhunche, we continue the drive until we reach Syabrubesi. You can explore this town for a while, but don’t forget to visit the riverside hot spring.
The first day of your trekking journey begins with a scenic but adventurous road trip. After an early breakfast at the hotel, we depart from Kathmandu on a bus that takes us to Syabrubesi. The first half of the road trip (up to Trishuli Bazaar) is fairly smooth on a paved road, but the real adventure begins once we hit the gravel road.
Driving on muddy rural roads in Nepal is an adventure in itself. However, the picturesque hills and the river flowing alongside make up for the bumpy ride. The roads can be occasionally blocked during the monsoon season due to landslides, so traveling during this time is not recommended.
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the city or resting to acclimatize to the higher altitude.
Trek Distance: 122km / 75.8miles

Trek Duration: 7 to 8 hours
We begin our trek from Syabrubesi, following the Bhote Kosi and Langtang Rivers, passing through fertile jungles, terraced fields, and rural settlements rich in bamboo and birch groves. You might spot rare wildlife, such as the red panda, along the trail. After a while, the trek ascends gently to Rimche (2,400 m / 7,874 ft) through dense bamboo forests along the banks of the Langtang River. We continue our journey until we reach Lama Hotel, our destination for the day.
Today marks the first day of trekking, and it’s an easy hike. After a delicious breakfast at the lodge in Syabrubesi (1,500 m), we begin our trek by crossing the Bhote Kosi River. The trail gradually ascends to Bamboo (2,200 m) and then to Rimche (2,485 m). By the end of the day, we reach Lama Hotel (2,480 m), where we have dinner and stay the night.
You’ll enjoy walking along the trail as it passes through oak and rhododendron forests. In the spring, the red rhododendron blooms cover the entire forest, creating a beautiful landscape. You may also catch glimpses of wild animals and birds if you’re fortunate enough.
Begin your Langtang trek with a scenic drive after breakfast, heading north from Kathmandu Valley. You’ll travel along the Prithvi Highway, following the picturesque banks of the Trishuli River. Upon reaching the small town of Dhunche, continue your journey through terraced landscapes and charming villages, all while enjoying breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal, until you arrive at Syabrubesi.
Trek Distance: 11.3km / 7miles
Highest Altitude: (2470m/8104ft)
Trek Duration: 6 hours
We begin our day with an early breakfast and start trekking alongside a river through the lush landscape, climbing upward through dense forests. Along the way, you might catch a glimpse of the snowy peaks ahead if the weather is favorable. Eventually, the narrow river valley broadens out at Ghoda Tabela (3,030 m). In the past, a Tibetan resettlement project operated here, but now Ghoda Tabela hosts an army checkpoint where we will register our papers. In addition to the army checkpoint, there are a few lodges in the area.
As we trek further, we will reach Chyamki Village (3,230 m), a small settlement, and pass Chortens, water mills, mani walls, and prayer wheels, signaling that we are nearing Langtang Village. We continue past prayer wheels powered by flowing water and prayer flags, reaching the scenic Langtang, a large settlement predominantly inhabited by Tamang people.
On the third day, we begin our hike from Lama Hotel after breakfast. As we pass through rhododendron and pine forests, you’ll catch glimpses of Langtang Lirung and the Langtang Himal Range. The trail breaks through the woods at Ghoda Tabela (3,030 m), where we stop for lunch.
The trail gradually ascends further as the valley opens into alpine meadows, where you’ll find yaks grazing. Before you reach Langtang Village, you’ll pass several temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze during the summer months.
As you arrive in Langtang Village (3,430 m), the Langtang Range becomes more prominent. The village was severely devastated by the 2015 earthquake, but its infrastructure has been restored, and the traditional houses have been rebuilt in a modern style. Langtang Village is where we stay the night in a lodge with modern facilities.
On this day, your trekking adventure leads you into Langtang National Park, Nepal’s first Himalayan national park, established in 1976. As you trek along the Bhote Kosi and Langtang Rivers, you’ll pass through lush rhododendron and oak forests. The trail ascends to Rimche at 2,400 meters (7,874 ft), offering scenic views along the way. Continuing through bamboo forests by the Langtang River, you’ll arrive at Lama Hotel, where you will rest for the night.
Trek Distance: 14.8km / 9.1miles
Highest Altitude: (3430m/11253ft)
Trek Duration: 6 hours
Today’s trek will be short and easy. We will pass by many small plateaus, large mani walls, yak pastures, small villages, and meadows. Since we will be gaining elevation, we will trek slowly to allow our bodies to acclimatize. After hiking for a while, we will come across water mills, prayer wheels, and sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved into them. This signals that we have reached the ancient monastery of Kyanjin Gompa (3,830 m / 12,565 ft). Kyanjin Gompa is surrounded by the Himalayas, and from here, we get stunning views of several snow-capped peaks.
Today’s hike will be a short 4-5 hours from Langtang Village (3,430 m) to Kyanjin Gompa (3,830 m). We begin the hike on a steep trail through yak pastures, passing temporary huts made by shepherds, as permanent settlements are rare above 3,500 meters. The valley gradually opens, offering an even more extensive view of the Langtang Range.
As you reach Kyanjin Gompa, you’ll encounter chortens, prayer flags, and mani walls with sacred stones engraved with religious scriptures. We will arrive at this beautiful Buddhist settlement of Kyanjin Gompa in time for lunch, and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. You can explore the surroundings, including the monastery and cheese factory, or simply rest at the teahouse.
Today’s trek is one of the main highlights of the Langtang Trek. After breakfast, you’ll hike through dense forests with clear views of Langtang Lirung, eventually arriving at Ghoda Tabela (3,000 m / 9,842 ft). Continuing your journey, you’ll reach Chyamki Village (3,230 m / 10,597 ft). As you trek further, passing mani walls, prayer wheels, and chortens, you’ll arrive at Langtang Village.
Trek Distance: 6.8km / 4.2miles
Highest Altitude: (5033m/16512ft)
Trek Duration: 3 hours
Today is our rest day to acclimatize and explore the beautiful Langtang Region. The Langtang Valley has much to offer trekkers. The higher elevation provides stunning views of the Himalayan ranges and glaciers.
You will visit Kyanjin Gompa and observe monks offering their prayers. The cheese factory is also an interesting site to visit. We can also hike to Langshisa Kharka and the viewpoint of Tserko Ri (5,450 m / 17,880 ft) — the highest point of this trek. Tserko Ri offers the perfect viewpoint to admire peaks like Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Langtang II (6,586 m), and many more. Another viewpoint, Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m / 15,655 ft), provides majestic views of the Langtang Range. As the sun begins to set, we will return to Kyanjin Gompa for the night.
After trekking for three days, you deserve a rest day. This acclimatization day is also essential for your body to adjust to the increasing altitude and decreasing oxygen levels as you go higher than 3,000 meters.
However, a rest day doesn’t mean you’ll stay at the lodge the entire time. You can explore the village or hike nearby hilltops. Kyanjin Gompa is named after the monastery Kyanjin Gompa, which holds great religious significance. There’s also a famous cheese factory that produces yak cheese. These two places are a must-visit when you’re in Kyanjin Gompa.
If you choose to hike for better mountain views, you can go up to Kyanjin Ri (4,400 m) or Tserko Ri (4,984 m). Both are fantastic viewpoints for panoramic views of the Langtang Range, including the highest peak, Langtang Lirung (7,245 m), scenic valleys, frozen lakes, and pristine glaciers.
Today’s trek is short but filled with stunning scenery. Departing from Langtang Village, you’ll follow an ascending trail toward the traditional settlement of Mundu. As you trek, you’ll cross small plateaus, pass mani walls, glacial rivers, and yak pastures. The trail gradually leads you to Kyanjin Gompa, where you can visit a government-run cheese factory to sample or purchase delicious yak cheese.
Highest Altitude: (5033m/16512f)
We will leave Kyanjin Gompa, admiring the last glimpse of the beautiful mountains standing with pride and glory. However, it’s time for us to retrace the route we took to Langtang Village, stopping at Ghoda Tabela for lunch. The army checkpoint at Ghoda Tabela will also register our exit. After a leisurely lunch, we will continue down through the dense river valley forests to Lama Hotel, where we will stay for the night.
After our last breakfast at Kyanjin Gompa, we begin our trek back. The long walk on the same trail takes us to Langtang Village and Ghoda Tabela, where we will stop for lunch. After a brief lunch break, we will continue with a steep descent to reach Lama Hotel, where we will spend the night again. Although it’s a long hiking day, the walk is easier as most of the trail descends.
On today’s trekking adventure, you’ll ascend to Kyanjin Ri, the viewpoint of the Langtang Region, for a breathtaking sunrise. From this vantage point, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang Glacier, Changbu, Yubra, Tserko Peak, Tsergo Ri, Naya Kanga, and Kangja La Himal. After taking in these magnificent sights, you’ll hike back down to Kyanjin Gompa for breakfast. Then, begin your descent, trekking past Langtang Village and continuing all the way to Lama Hotel.
Trek Distance: 21km / 13 miles
Highest Altitude: (2470m/8104ft)
Trek Duration: 6 hours
Today, being the final trekking day, we head to Syabrubesi to drive back to Kathmandu. We will walk along the Langtang River, descending into the beautiful river valley. As you descend through bamboo and birch forests, you’ll witness stunning landscapes and cross both the Langtang and Bhote Koshi Rivers to reach Syabrubesi. This marks the end of our trekking journey. The following day, we will drive back to Kathmandu.
On the last hiking day of this Langtang 8-Day Trek, we trek back from Lama Hotel to Rimche, Bamboo, and finally to Syabrubesi. After enjoying the Himalayan views one last time, we’ll savor a delicious Nepali meal and spend the night at a lodge in Syabrubesi.

You’ll follow the trail along the Langtang River, passing through beautiful landscapes and crossing both the Bhote Koshi River and the Langtang River. Accommodations
During the trek, you will stay in the best available lodges for seven nights. Five of these nights include accommodations with private attached bathrooms at Syabrubesi, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa, while two nights will be spent in standard rooms at Lama Hotel.
Electricity for charging devices, Wi-Fi for internet access, and hot showers are available in most lodges, though they come with an additional fee.
Two nights’ stay in Kathmandu (before and after the trek) is required but not included in the package. Kathmandu offers various accommodation options to suit all budgets and preferences.
Spring and autumn are the best times to go on the Langtang Trek. The trekking conditions are excellent during both seasons, with warm, sunny days and cool nights. The skies are a deep blue, providing a stunning backdrop of pristine, snow-capped mountains. Wildflowers bloom along the trail, painting the landscape with a rainbow of colors. The Rhododendron flowers, especially in spring, create the illusion of a red forest with their vibrant crimson hues.
It’s best to avoid winter and monsoon seasons, as the weather in the mountains can be unpredictable and harsh during these times.
