Several starting points for the trek are available, including Chame and Muktinath. The trail follows the swift-flowing Marsyangdi River before heading north into the lush Manang Valley, passing through Pisang and Braga. We begin the third day of our trek, following the Marsyangdi River. After a steep climb, we enter the Manang region, reaching Tal village. Here, we are greeted by several waterfalls that form a river by the sandy beaches. As we hike through barley, rice, and potato fields, we arrive at Kodo, one of the largest villages in the Manang Valley. Continuing forward, we cross a suspension bridge and, after a short climb through a stone Kani (archway), we reach Dharapani, our destination for the day.
After leaving Chame, we pass through rhododendron, pine, and bamboo forests, following the trail through the valley before arriving at Tal with its cultivated farm plots of wheat, potatoes, and other grains. We leave Dharapani and follow the trail through forests of pine, fir, oak, and maple trees along the Marsyangdi River, heading toward Chame, the district headquarters of the Manang District. Surrounded by lush greenery, you’ll be treated to remarkable views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV (7,525m). We will also stop at a small hot spring for a short rest.

One of the main attractions in Manang is its Gompa, the largest monastery in the region. Manang is also a popular resting point for trekkers who use it to acclimatize before ascending to higher altitudes. Trek from Chame to Upper Pisang and Acclimatization Day at Manang
After breakfast, we begin the trek through a steep and narrow valley, where we’ll get our first view of the massive Paungda Danda Rock, considered sacred by the local people. The curved rock face rises 1,500 meters from the Marsyangdi River. Along the trail, we also get clear views of Annapurna II to the south and Pisang Peak to the northeast.
Our path then descends to the Manang Valley floor, leading us to Pisang Village, where we will spend the night.
After leaving Chame, we pass through Telekhu. Along the way, we’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Annapurna and Pisang (6,091m). We’ll then cross a suspension bridge to the south bank of the Marsyangdi River. After crossing, we ascend through a pine forest as we trek through the upper reaches of the Manang Valley to Pisang. Tonight, we stay in Pisang. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Following medical advice to acclimatize before ascending to higher elevations, today’s plan includes a gradual climb up to Khangsar (3,756m). This ascent helps with acclimatization, allowing the body to adjust to the altitude while staying active. Afterward, we return to Manang for an overnight stay. All meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are provided to ensure proper nourishment and energy for the day. This acclimatization day is crucial for preparing us for the higher altitudes that await on the trek.

As we ascend, you’ll notice the air growing colder, drier, and more harsh. This route takes us through Tibetan settlements, providing an opportunity to explore Buddhist culture. We will also visit Barge Monastery, the largest monastery in Manang. Along the path, we’ll encounter Buddhist shrines as we pass additional monasteries, eventually reaching the Manang Bazaar, an area that caters to tourists. The town of Pisang marks the starting point of our trek in the upper Manang region. Today, we head to Braga, a Tibetan village known for its unique architecture, with houses built one on top of the other. One of its main attractions is its Gompa, the largest in the Manang region. Manang is popular among trekkers and serves as an acclimatization point before continuing to higher altitudes. We will spend the night here. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.)
On the next day, departing from Manang, our trek will take 4 to 5 hours, leading us to Bangsar Village at an altitude of 3,756 meters. Trek to Ledar
After a day of acclimatization in and around Manang, allowing our bodies time to rest and adjust to the high elevation, we head towards Ledar. Our journey begins by crossing a stream and climbing to Tenki Village. We then leave Marshyangdi Valley and head northwest into Jar Sang Khola Valley, where the trail ascends as we move northward.
Along the way, we will pass through several pastures and juniper forests. As the trek continues, we will pass through a small village called Gunsan, known for its flat mud roofs, and witness yak and horse pastures. After crossing a small river on a wooden bridge, we will reach the peaceful meadow of Yak Kharka. A little further ahead is the Ledar hamlet.
Today, we embark on a 10.4 km uphill trek to Yak Kharka, passing through juniper forests where we may see yaks grazing in the pastures. Along the route, we will pass the only teahouse at Thorong Khola. Depending on the conditions, we may decide to continue a little further and stay the night at Ledar. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

The changing light throughout the day causes the color of the lake to transition through various shades of blue.
Upon reaching Tilicho Lake, take time to admire the serene beauty of the area, soak in the surrounding peaks, and capture memorable photos of this stunning location. Afterward, we will make our way back to Sri Kharka.
Tilicho Lake covers an area of 4.8 sq km, and our guesthouse accommodation awaits us in Sri Kharka for a comfortable overnight stay. All meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are included, ensuring a satisfying end to this day of exploration and natural beauty.

Trek to Thorong High Camp
Today, we head towards Thorong High Camp. From Ledar, we will climb up to a ridge, then descend and cross the Marsyangdi River on a wooden bridge. After ascending further, we will follow a narrow trail across a slope before descending to Thorong Phedi. The rugged, uninhabited terrain here feels otherworldly, vastly different from the lush lowlands we passed during the initial phase of the trek.
From Thorong Phedi, we will continue ascending until we reach Thorong High Camp. Along the way, we may encounter yak herds and blue sheep. As we climb higher, we gradually acclimatize to the altitude. We will follow the east bank of the Jarang Khola, passing steep bluffs along the trail before reaching Thorong Phedi (meaning “foothills”).
If we’re lucky, we may spot the famous blue sheep or even a snow leopard! This region is also home to the Lammergeyer (bearded vulture), and there is a local belief that mythical griffons inhabit the area.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Trek Distance: 7.3km /4.53 m
Highest Altitude: (4,925m/16,158 ft)/(4040m/4,560m)
Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours
This day will be remarkable as we trek from Thorong Phedi (4,525 m / 14,845 ft) to Muktinath Temple (3,760 m / 12,623 ft) via Thorong La High Pass (5,416 m / 17,756 ft). It is also one of the most challenging parts of the trek, as Thorong La Pass is one of the highest passes in the world and the highest point of our journey.
We begin early in the morning and push ourselves through the icy air and high altitude, but the views from the pass are absolutely worth the effort. To the north, towards Tibet, we will see a panoramic view of the majestic Himalayan peaks. Looking back, the Annapurna range will unfold before us.
Afterward, we descend to Muktinath—a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. In Buddhism, Muktinath is called Chumig Gyatsa, which means “Hundred Waters” in Tibetan. The Muktinath Temple is famous for its 108 stone sprouts, from which water flows from the Kaligandaki River. You can also witness the eternal flame that has been burning for more than 2,000 years.
Today is likely the toughest day of the trek, with about 7-8 hours of hiking. The higher altitude increases the difficulty, and strong winds are common in the upper regions. Along the way, we may encounter sheep, yaks, and merchants transporting goods. Upon reaching Thorong La Pass, we will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Annapurna, Gangapurna, and the striking peak of Khatungkang (6,484 m). After leaving the pass, we descend about 1,600 meters, with the magnificent Dhaulagiri (Dhaulagiri, meaning “White Mountain”) visible—this is the highest mountain entirely within Nepal. The trail becomes more undulating and relatively easier before we reach Muktinath, where we will stay the night. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Optional Trek Extension:
If you wish to extend your journey, from Thorong Phedi, you can trek an additional hour to High Camp (4,800 m). Climbing higher, we gradually acclimate to the increased altitude. The trail follows the east bank of the Jarang Khola and offers views of steep bluffs before leading us to Thorong Phedi, meaning “foothills.” If we’re fortunate, we may spot the famous blue sheep or even a snow leopard, as this area is their habitat. Thorong Phedi is also home to the Lammergeyer (bearded vulture), and it is believed that mythical griffons reside in the region.

The drive will be rough, as it passes through some of the deepest gorges in the world. We will travel from the arid highlands to lush green forests. Tatopani is famous for its natural hot springs, offering a chance to immerse ourselves in the healing waters, which are said to have curative properties for skin diseases.
From Muktinath, we will pass through lush meadows, fruit trees, and streams, eventually reaching Kagbeni before arriving in Jomsom, located in the Kali Gandaki Valley. Kagbeni is renowned for its horticulture industry. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Challenging Day of Trekking
Today is likely to be one of the most challenging days of the trek, involving approximately 7-8 hours of hiking. The higher altitude will increase the difficulty, and the upper regions may experience strong winds. Along the trail, we may encounter sheep, yaks, and merchants transporting goods.
Upon reaching Thorong La Pass, we will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Annapurna, Gangapurna, and the striking peak of Khatungkang (6,484 m).
After leaving the pass, we will descend around 1,600 meters, with the magnificent Dhaulagiri (meaning “White Mountain”) becoming a prominent feature. Dhaulagiri is the highest mountain entirely in Nepal. The trail then becomes more undulating and relatively easier before we reach Muktinath, where we will stay the night after a 10-hour trek. All meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are included to refuel us after this strenuous and rewarding day.
Trek Distance: 113km / 70miles
Highest Altitude: (3,760m / 12,623ft)/(5,416m/3,802m)

As we begin our return journey, the path descends alongside the Dudh Koshi River. You’ll cross several suspension bridges along the way. After trekking through lush forests and passing small villages, you’ll arrive at Phakding, just beyond Benkar.
We leave the hot springs behind and cross to the east side of the Kali Gandaki River, ascending to Ghorepani through the ethnic Thakali villages of Sikha and Chitre. Our trek takes us through terraced farmlands with mountains surrounding us, passing through lush forests filled with rhododendron, birch, and magnolia. We will stop at Ghorepani, a beautiful village located at the top of a ridge, where we will spend the night.
7-8 Hour Road Trip
Today, we embark on a 7-8 hour road trip from Jomsom to Pokhara, passing through Tatopani (with time to enjoy the hot springs) and Beni Bazaar before reaching our final destination, Pokhara.
