The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is one of the most beautiful treks on Earth. It takes you through various climates, diverse landscapes, and culturally rich villages. From the Annapurna Base Camp, you’ll witness stunning views of peaks such as Fishtail, Hiunchuli, the Annapurna Massif, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho, Pisang, and Pungda Danda, among others. Along the way, you will visit the famous Poon Hill viewpoint and relax in the natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda.
The ABC Trek is one of the most popular trekking experiences in Nepal, offering an incredible journey through a diverse landscape and culture. You’ll enjoy mountain vistas, terraced fields, quaint Gurung villages, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. Mount Annapurna (8,091m), the 10th highest mountain in the world, is a key highlight. The trek to its base camp, sitting at an altitude of 4,130m (13,549ft), is widely considered one of the best treks in Nepal. The route also takes you past Mount Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), which is revered for its unique beauty. With a well-organized itinerary, the ABC Trek is a popular choice among trekkers of all kinds, from solo travelers to groups.
Our 11-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary is shorter compared to most treks in the region, making it perfect for those with limited time. For those seeking a more leisurely trek, the 14-day Annapurna Sanctuary Trek offers a relaxed experience. The ABC Trek is considered a “must-do” for trekkers, leading you through Nepal’s oldest trekking trail to the heart of the Annapurna Region.
You’ll pass through traditional villages and terraced fields, and engage with the elderly Gurung and Magar villagers—many of whom have served in the British Army. You’ll be awed by the breathtaking beauty of the Annapurna peaks, including the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).
The trail to Annapurna Base Camp offers a wondrous world of snow and ice, taking you to a glacial sanctuary surrounded by the Annapurna Massif. At the base camp, you’ll find yourself in a natural amphitheater, with views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Annapurna I, the tenth highest mountain in the world.
The trek begins in Kimchi village. Throughout the journey, your experienced guide will provide support and guidance. You’ll trek past traditional Gurung villages, terraced fields, and scenic landscapes, with Machhapuchhre’s forked summit looming in the distance. Despite significant development in the Annapurna Region, the route to ABC remains largely untouched, providing a serene and scenic walking experience beneath towering Himalayan peaks.
During spring, the trail bursts with the colorful blooms of rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower. The final leg of your trek offers a relaxing dip in the natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda. In Pokhara, you can reminisce about your trek while gazing at the reflection of the peaks you’ve walked beneath in Phewa Lake.
This trek is ideal for those who are reasonably fit and looking for a high-altitude walk lasting just over a week. Within 11 days, you will reach an elevation of 4,130m, visit two base camps (Annapurna Base Camp and Machhapuchhre Base Camp), and stand in the heart of the Annapurna Range.
The trek is a perfect introduction to Nepal’s natural beauty, offering views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Mt. Annapurna I (8,091m), Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,993m), and many others. The region is also famous for its Tibetan Buddhist culture, with chortens and colorful prayer flags along the trail. Yaks graze in high alpine pastures, and you’ll encounter Tibetan-style architecture in the villages.
Your adventure begins in Kathmandu, followed by a bus ride to Pokhara, then a trek to Ghandruk, where you’ll start your hike along the Modi Khola River. You’ll pass through terraced rice fields and arrive at the village of Chomrong (2,170m), then continue to Bamboo/Himalaya Lodge. From there, you’ll reach Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), and finally Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). After reaching ABC, you’ll head back to Bamboo, Jhinu Danda, and Nayapul, where you’ll take a bus back to Pokhara.
Sherpa Expedition Teams has an excellent reputation in the trekking business and will take care of all necessary permits, accommodation, and meals on this trek.
While the trek can be done year-round, the best time is in spring when the rhododendron forests are in full bloom. The trek offers exceptional views of numerous Himalayan peaks, including:
