Bhasmasur Hill Day Hike Overview
Duration: 5-6 hours
The hike begins with a short drive to Pharping, located to the south of Kathmandu. From there, you’ll start your ascent towards Bhasmasur Hill via Hattiban Resort and Champadevi Hill. Upon reaching Bhasmasur Danda, you’ll retrace your steps for around an hour and a half, descending through the forest trail. When you reach the junction, take the left path leading to Taudaha. Here, our private car will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.
Route Details: Pharping to Machchhegaun via Champadevi
The Bhasmasur Hill hike typically begins near Pharping and follows a scenic route through Champadevi before descending to Machchhegaun. After a one-hour drive from Kathmandu, the hike begins with a steep climb through pine forests. The trail levels out for about 45 minutes before a short descent to Deurali. From there, you’ll ascend through a forested path up to Champadevi. Along the way, you’ll pass Hindu and Buddhist shrines, stupas, and prayer flags, offering a spiritual touch to the journey. After reaching the summit of Bhasmasur Hill, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views before descending to Machchhegaun, where a vehicle will take you back to Kathmandu. The entire hike typically takes 7-8 hours to complete.
Alternative Route: Bhasmasur Hill via Chhap Danda
For those seeking a slightly different experience, the route from Bhasmasur Hill via Chhap Danda is another fantastic option. The trail follows the same path up to Bhasmasur Hill, which takes approximately 3-4 hours. Once at the summit, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Himalayas, green hills, and the Kathmandu Valley. From Bhasmasur, descend towards Chhap Danda for a delicious local lunch, then continue down to Machchhegaun. Finally, a vehicle will transport you back to Kathmandu.
